Garmin Forerunner 165/255/265/955/965 Beta 29.04

Overview

Garmin Public Beta 29.04 covers the Forerunner 165, 255, 265, 955, and 965. All five announcements use the same three-line changelog, so one combined page is enough.

The update fixes strength personal-record syncing and heart-rate or power-field setup from Garmin Connect Mobile. It remains beta software; version 28.05 is the production branch for these watches.

Official announcements:

The five page titles say 100% rollout, but the Forerunner 265 and 965 page bodies still show older 20% wording. Garmin's own pages conflict, so use the update status shown on your enrolled watch.

Beta 29.04 Changelog

Each announcement lists the same changes:

  • Corrects syncing of strength personal records with Garmin Connect.
  • Corrects Garmin Connect Mobile configuration for heart-rate and power data fields.
  • Includes other unspecified fixes and improvements.

What the Two Named Fixes Cover

Strength Personal Records

Beta 29.04 fixes strength personal records that failed to sync to Garmin Connect. The note is about personal-record sync, not set recording, rep detection, exercise recognition, or full activity uploads.

If this bug affected you, compare the personal record on the watch with Garmin Connect after your next normal strength workout.

Heart-Rate and Power Fields

Beta 29.04 also fixes heart-rate and power fields configured in Garmin Connect Mobile. After syncing, the selected field should appear in the intended activity profile.

This is a configuration fix, not a change to heart-rate accuracy, running-power calculations, or sensor pairing. Available fields still vary by watch, activity profile, and connected sensor.

Is Beta 29.04 Worth Installing?

Install 29.04 if either named bug is getting in your way. Otherwise this is a modest beta with no new training feature, navigation tool, sport profile, or Connect IQ capability in the notes.

If the watch is important for an upcoming race or long event, staying on 28.05 avoids taking on beta risk for two Garmin Connect fixes. Garmin has not announced a stable 29.xx release date.

How to Install Forerunner Beta 29.04

The watch must be enrolled in Garmin's Public Beta Program. Garmin gives this manual update path:

  1. Open the main menu on the watch.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select System.
  4. Select Software Update.
  5. Choose Check For Updates.

If the update downloads but will not install, sync the watch, restart it, and check available storage. Our Garmin update troubleshooting guide covers stuck downloads and failed installs.

Does 29.04 Change Connect IQ or GameraSnap Compatibility?

The five announcements contain no Connect IQ or camera-remote changes. The heart-rate and power item is about fields configured in Garmin Connect Mobile, not Connect IQ data fields, standalone watch apps, or GameraSnap.

Use our supported Garmin watches page for documented GameraSnap device support. If app behavior changes on beta firmware, note the watch, firmware, phone platform, and app version.
